C'MON BILLY BREAK UP THE WINE

a.k.a. NOTHING CAN STOP ME NOW

C'mon Billy won't you break out the wine
I wanna see you pop that cork
Today is the day we have all been waiting for
Now I'm gonna get down to some serious celebrating

We ain't been out of this one horse town
This bus is gonna take us
Nothing can stop me now
Got a ticket to New York
Nothing can stop me now
No, no, nothing can stop me now

Say my goodbyes to Mary
She's just standing there at the door
I'm don't wanna leave that women so bluesy
I never left that girl before
A man's gotta seek his fortune
A man's gotta seek his fame
I tell you when I get back this whole town's gonna know my name
No nothing can stop this boy
Not even my mama
No, nothing can stop me now
No, no, no

C'mon Billy won't you break out the wine
I wanna see you pop that cork
Today is the day we have all been waiting for
Mama, we're gonna get down to some serious celebratin'

Hey Mr. Greyhound driver
Get me there right on time
All I wanna know is how far to go
Until we arrive
No, nothing can stop me
Don't let it stop me now
Nothing can stop me now
Nothing can stop me now
Nothing can stop me now
Nothing can stop me now

Bruce Springsteen Band / Dr Zoom and the Sonic Boom. These lyrics refer to the version played on 23 July 1971 at Damrosch Park, Lincoln Centre, New York City, NY, and on 17 December 1971 at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. An alternative version also exists.

This was a Bruce Springsteen Band original. Probably best left in the archives, as the lyrics are a little cringe worthy, although the sentiments are admirable and similar to later songs, the desire to escape and move on to something better. A big band number with plenty of horns and a refrain from the lady back-up singers who were stars in their own right as members of this band.
