Originally written for Patti Smith who recorded a definitive cover of this song. The song was a huge hit back then. The song found resurrection in Bruce's live shows as one of the ultimate stadium rockers. Played often in each tour from 1978 (except the Solo Acoustic Tour).
These lyrics refer to the live version played on 28 December 1980 at the Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY, and that was later published on the Live 1975-85 set. Previous versions and out-takes are slightly different and more similar to the version given to Patti Smith.
